Let’s focus on giving back to Mother Nature this Earth Day.

This week we celebrate Earth Day! Wednesday April 22nd will mark the 50th anniversary focusing on our precious planet.

Normally there would be events and activities all over the globe to clean up our planet and promote awareness of the environment.

Obviously that can’t happen this year so let’s take some time on our own to do our part. In this time of uncertainty it can feel good to do something that helps others. It gets us out of the constant fear being pushed on us by the media and gives us something positive to focus on. It can really feel good to do good.

Now that all parents are now also teachers this is a great opportunity to involve our children and educate them about conservation and protecting our planet.

Here are some ideas on things we can do on our own to help.

Teach the kids about recycling. Go through the things you would normally through away and find what is recyclable. Separate the recyclables and talk about how it is reused and not just put into a landfill.

Plant a tree or flowers, or even start a garden. More plants mean more oxygen and help combat greenhouse gasses and pollution. Plant flowers that attract and feed butterflies or bees.

Take a walk in your neighborhood and pick up trash. Bring a trash bag on your walk, wear gloves and clean up your local area.

Take a walk in nature and just appreciate the beauty of the area. We need to focus on the positive and good things out there always but now more than ever.

Spend some time this week focusing on doing good. You’ll find it makes you feel good too and will give you a distraction from all that is going on now.
