Chiropractic care of a patient with cystic fibrosis.

This week I’m reviewing a research paper that documents the benefits of Chiropractic care on a patient that was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. This is an interesting study that shows the benefits of Chiropractic care beyond pain relief and how it can boost your immune system. That means there is benefit for everyone so read on even if you think a case about cystic fibrosis doesn’t apply to you.

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic mutation that mainly affects the lungs. Patients will have a productive cough, difficulty breathing and frequent lung infections. The patient in this study first started having symptoms at 12 years old but wasn’t officially diagnosed until the age of 24. She didn’t see the Chiropractor until she was 34 years old. For the majority of her life she would have difficulty breathing mainly when trying to do sports or exercise. She also had lung infection every 1 to 3 months which required antibiotics to treat. The antibiotics would often increase the difficulty in her breathing and make her symptoms worse.

The Chiropractor examined her and evaluated her spine for misalignments or subluxations. She was found to have subluxations in her neck mid back and pelvis. She was put on a treatment plan that was initially once per week for 12 weeks. She then was reduced to once every other week.

She was treated and monitored for one year. After one year of care she had not needed antibiotics for lung infections in that time. She also reported much less ups and downs in her symptoms. She was also able to run and exercise with much less discomfort.

This is an interesting study showing how Chiropractic adjustments can boost the immune system. This patient is always going to have cystic fibrosis. Chiropractic treatments are not going to cure her of it. What the adjustments did for her, and can do for you, is help your body function at it’s peak potential.

So get adjusted and be the best you you can be!
