Chiropractic care’s role in infertility.

This week I’ve been reading many articles about case studies of women who were unable to conceive until they started seeing a Chiropractor.

There have been many case studies published over the years involving women who had been trying to get pregnant for several months, and some for years with no success. In some cases they had also been trying other methods like in vitro fertilization, hormone therapies and other conventional methods without results.

In many of the cases it was some other issue that initially brought them to see a Chiropractor. They had also been experiencing headaches or low back pain which brought them to Chiropractic. This is something I see every day. We are sometimes only seen as headache, neck pain and back pain doctors so that is what brings someone in. Then once they start getting adjusted, and their nervous system can work as intended, all sorts of other health issues they have been experiencing also get better.

This is a great example of what Chiropractic is really about. A Chiropractor doesn’t need to know every health problem someone is having. The body already knows! When the nervous system, the master control of the body, can function properly the body does the healing.

That is precisely what was happening in these published case studies on infertile women. They may have come in for another issue but after Chiropractic care their nervous system was functioning better and they were able to conceive.

There are nerves that directly control all of the reproductive organs so any irritation to those nerves may impair the function of these organs. Also hormones are the main regulators of many functions in the body including, of course, reproduction. Adjustments also have effects on the autonomic nervous system which is the portion that controls hormone production. This is the basic mechanism for how Chiropractic care can help.

Now this is not to say Chiropractic is a cure for infertility. There are many reasons a couple may experience difficulty conceiving. A couple should absolutely work with their primary care doctor to attempt to evaluate where the problem may lie. In addition Chiropractic care along with nutrition counseling and proper supplements should also be part of the discussion to make sure all aspects of the couples health are being addressed.
